In a week where our children have been undertaking their pre-tests for senior school, it was a particularly interesting time to attend Tatler’s Independent Schools conference in London. At that conference, I was invited to speak on the benefits of country schools and what they could offer to families seeking preparation for the best senior schools in the country. In the hot seat opposite TV newsreader, Mary Nightingale, I was interested to see that perceptions of boarding can often be stuck in the past and yet to me, our flexi-boarding provision is a key way that our children are prepared for the demands of senior school life. Whether they choose to attend as a day pupil or board, the independence and social skills that are nurtured in flexi-boarding are vital in children’s emotional development and ready them for the step up to senior school life. Just yesterday, attendees of Wellington College’s Boarding Conference visited Lambrook to tour our boarding provision, and I was pleased to learn that not only were they impressed by our facilities but more importantly, the wonderful and varied experiences our children enjoy.
And more incredible experiences are on offer to those lucky children travelling to Iceland and South Africa over the half term holiday. Whether you too are venturing abroad or enjoying quality time at home, I wish you a very happy and restful break.
