Our Annual Sports Day certainly creates an air of competitive excitement around the School. Our Headmaster Jonathan Perry is also preparing for his own challenge as he joins with 20 other Prep School Heads to undertake a ‘Dawn to Dusk’ expedition in Pembrokeshire in August, to raise money for Place2Be – a children’s mental health charity that works to improve the emotional well being of children and young people.
It has been overwhelming to see the support shown to Mr Perry through advice, training tips, the offer of equipment and some extremely generous sponsorship. Lambrook has already raised a significant figure, giving Mr Perry the lead in at least something!
We have been putting Mr Perry through his paces over the last few weeks and he has been training hard – running to work in the mornings and clocking up the miles on his ergo. The challenge itself, includes a 5 hour coastal kayaking trek, a 50 mile bike ride, and a 12 mile walk/run to finish, so there is still much more training that needs to take place before August!
The charity Place2Be prioritises mental health support, helping children to cope with wide-ranging and often complex social issues including bullying, bereavement, domestic violence, family breakdown, neglect and trauma. Children are less likely to suffer from serious mental health difficulties in later life if they receive adequate support at an early age. We are proud of the provision on offer to our children at Lambrook but know that this is not the case in many schools and homes across the UK; your generosity will really make the difference to those who cannot readily access mental health support.
If you are able to contribute towards this incredibly worthy cause and to encourage Mr Perry in his last few weeks of training, please do follow the link below: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/lambrookheadsupchallenge
One of the sponsors of this challenge, Featherstone Partners, are running an Instagram picture competition over the summer, the winner of which will receive an entire term’s school fees and a further donation of £3,000 to our School’s Heads Up Challenge, which certainly adds another level of inter-school competition! They are giving away 1,000 branded rash-vests to parents of children at prep schools and whoever posts their favourite/happiest/funniest/most amazing picture on Instagram of their children wearing them over the summer before September 28th, will win the prize.
