Back in January, Lambrook had the privledge of hosting the IAPS Swimming Regional Qualifier Competition.

Seven schools competed at Lambrook on a dark and rainy winter afternoon, including Lambrook, Papplewick, Summerfields, the Marist, Highfield, Gayhurst and Heatherton House.

It was a fantastic competition with Lambrook entering a team of 32 children for the many individual and relay events. All of the children swam their absolute best and appeared to thoroughly enjoy the event and the opportunity of hosting the other schools. We have since found out, that many of our competitors made it through to the Regional Finals

In total, the IAPS (Independent Association of Prep Schools) Swimming event involves 4,634 competitors with 285 schools taking part in the regional events. The finals were due to be held at the London Aquatics Centre (home of swimming at the 2012 Olympics) at the beginning of June and sadly, our pupils will miss out on this amazing experience – let’s hope that we will have even more of our pupils reaching the finals next year!

The 32 children who competed should be proud of their achievements as they all swam extremely well after a busy few months of Swim Squad training. We are disappointed that the following children will not be able to compete at the finals, but we are delighted with their efforts and in some cases, personal bests. It is looking like we may have a Michael Jamieson or a Rebecca Adlington in the making here at Lambrook! Some of the stand-out performances include:

  • Stirling S 25m Freestyle (U10) 11th
  • Dylan H 50m Fly (U12) 17th
  • Bella H 50m Freestyle (U12) 2nd
  • Minty J 50m Breastroke (U12) 16th
  • Girls U12 Freestyle Relay 15th (Sofia, Bella, Minty, Emily)
  • Girls U12 Medley Relay 18th (Sofia, Bella, Minty, Emily)

We are so fortunate to be able to use our 25 metre swimming pool for so many things each week, including swimming lessons for each one of our pupils, swimming lessons for local primary schools, water polo, life saving, ‘swim squad’, swimming galas as well as hosting Bracknell Swimming Club. We have estimated that around 165,000 people have used the pool since its official opening in 2005!
