It has been an industrious week in Pre Prep. The children are working so hard and as I pop into their classrooms, I am always so impressed by their concentration and determination to do their very best.
In Mathematics, the Year 2 children have been solving number sentence equations and using their knowledge of mathematical symbols and money to problem solve. Year 1’s understanding of ‘number families’ has been extended this week and in Reception, a wonderful variety of practical resources including an alien, have been used to teach subtraction!
An exciting variety of Literacy lessons have been taking place. Children in Year 1 have written some exciting shopping lists, Year 2, fact files and in Reception, the children’s ability to compose and punctuate short phrases has been rather impressive. Their daily reading sessions have provided a perfect opportunity for language development too.
The Creative Curriculum learning journeys continue to ignite the children’s imagination and provide meaningful learning experiences. The ‘Lost Star’ has taken off in a rocket and the children have baked and decorated their own star shaped biscuits. Year 1 children created the most beautiful three dimensional dioramas for the Gingerbread Man, whilst Year 2 quite literally brought The Great Fire of London to life in a spectacular burning of their Tudor Houses!
The children are also fully in the swing of getting ready for Christmas with Nativity and concert rehearsals well underway. There is a real sense of excitement, as words are being learnt and songs practised. A treat awaits, I’m sure!
We have greatly missed our Nursery children this week and are very much looking forward to their return on Monday. They have engaged brilliantly with activities on Tapestry and with their teachers on Zoom. Well done Nursery!
I wish you and your children a very restful weekend.
