We could not wait to open the doors to the Pre Prep yesterday morning and welcome the children and parents back to school. It is such a long time since this was possible, making it all the more a special occasion. It was lovely to be greeted with cheerful smiles, friendly words and children who have clearly had a wonderful holiday and are now happy be back at school – it is as though they have never been away!
It has been a pleasure to welcome many new families to the Pre Prep. The new starters tea party on Wednesday was a wonderful opportunity for the new children to meet their teachers and for the parents to mix and mingle. For those of you who are new to Lambrook, I do hope that you will continue to feel very much part of the school community.
The children are already engaged in many exciting learning experiences. Nursery and Reception have been happily making new friends, getting to know their teachers and familiarising themselves with new routines and expectations. Year 1 has started their outdoor programme, learning about animal husbandry and collecting eggs from the chickens. Year 2 has written postcards chronicling the highlights of their holidays and brushing up on their number bonds. As the oldest children in Pre Prep, they are already acting as the perfect role models to the younger children. They are very aware that my expectations are high for them this year!
In assembly today, I spoke to the children about the Olympic and Paralympic games held in Tokyo this Summer. Hard work, determination, courage, teamwork, endurance and perseverance are just some of the character traits that children can learn from. But without a doubt, the most valuable lessons are those of the three values of Olympism; excellence, friendship and respect. I have encouraged the children to strive to do their very best this year, whist embracing the values of kindness, good manners and having respect for others and the environment.
The children should be proud of the way they have started the year and all they have achieved in just a few days. It will be a brilliant year.
I wish you a restful and enjoyable weekend.
Louise Farrar, Head of Pre Prep
