It has been lovely to welcome the children back again after their half term break and to hear of all the fun (and mischief) they have been up to! It would appear that relaxation has been the order of the day, and the children are certainly raring to go with the run up to all the Christmas festivities.

This is probably my favourite time of year and as the days get chillier and the nights get longer, there is a certain feeling that grows inside me. This must be an unconscious feeling of excitement that spills back to my childhood and takes me back to the time when I was a little girl. I remember throwing up autumn leaves and making little “hedgehog nests” with my friends and I can’t help but feel the same way when I see the children here at Lambrook doing exactly the same thing.

Childhood passes so quickly and if we don’t treasure these moments while we can, they’ll be over in a flash! On Monday I arrived with a bag of things that I had needed to bring back to work. On emptying the bag, I found a foam Nerf gun bullet at the bottom. Needless to say, my children have been having a whale of a time around the house at half term (how it is still standing is an engineering feat!) and Nerf gun wars have been keeping them entertained!  I was just about to toss the foam bullet into the bin, when I stopped myself. How many more times am I likely to find a “little gift” like this from my children in my bag? They are growing up so fast and I am sure that Nerf guns will be “so yesterday” very soon. Instead I have kept it on my desk as a reminder that it is one Nerf gun bullet closer to never finding one in my bag again! I’m going to treasure it, just like I’m going to try and treasure the moments that signify that my children are having a happy childhood. It’s an important reminder to all of us. Don’t sweat the small stuff and don’t get hung up on how many instruments or tutoring lessons everyone else seems to be having. Enjoy your children, cherish those special moments and embrace Nerf gun bullets!

Have a wonderful weekend.
