Leave a legacy
Leaving a gift in your will is one way that you can support the Lambrook community for future generations. As we are a registered charity, legacies will reduce the value of your estate for inheritance tax purposes. In the event you leave more than 10% of your estate to charity you may reduce the rate of inheritance tax to 36%. In the event you wish to leave a legacy to Lambrook we recommend you seek professional advice concerning the tax implications which will be individual to your circumstances.
We are keen that any legacy is directed in the right way, so please do contact us should you wish to support a specific area of The Lambrook Foundation.
Professional Legal Advice – Making plans for a legacy gift is an important decision and there are many factors to consider. We always recommend that you take professional legal advice when drafting or updating your will, adding a codicil (a supplement or minor change to your existing will), or writing a letter of intent (guidance for the people dealing with your estate, also known as a letter of wishes).
Types of Legacy Gifts
A Pecuniary Gift: a specified amount that can be linked to inflation so that it retains its value over time.
A Residuary Gift: a percentage of the value remaining in an estate once all pecuniary legacies, debts and fees have been met. A gift of as little as 1% of your estate can be an affordable way to give to The Lambrook Foundation.
A Lifetime Gift: a gift that provides for your loved ones during their lifetime (e.g. the right to live in your property and/or to benefit from income that your assets produce) – also known as a ‘reversionary gift’. On their death, the property or underlying assets are donated to The Lambrook Foundation.
Assets: a gift of assets such as property, stocks, shares, library collections, artefacts or other valuables.
Endowed Gifts: Depending on the size and intention of your gift, you may wish for it to be endowed with the capital of the bequest invested by The Lambrook Foundation to produce an annual income, for instance to fund a bursary.
Deed of Variation: If you happen to be named as a beneficiary in a will, it is possible to transfer a portion or all your inheritance to The Lambrook Foundation through a Deed of Variation. Not only is this a wonderful way to leave a gift in memory of a loved one, but also by utilising this method, gifts that are redirected to The Lambrook Foundation become exempt from the Inheritance Tax.

Tax efficient giving
Lambrook School Trust Ltd is a registered charity (Registered Charity Number 309098) and is therefore entitled to participate in the Government’s Gift Aid Scheme. If you make a donation from income that has been subject to UK income tax or capital gains tax, then, providing the Gift Aid Scheme conditions are met, Lambrook can reclaim from HMRC, the equivalent of the basic rate income tax paid on your donation. At this time, pay tax in the UK, Lambrook can recover £25 for every £100 that you donate. You can complete this form here.
If your employer, company or personal pension provider runs a Payroll Giving scheme, you can donate straight from your wages or pension.
The tax relief you get depends on the rate of tax you pay. To donate £1, you pay:
- 80p if you’re a basic rate taxpayer
- 60p if you’re a higher rate taxpayer
- 55p if you’re an additional rate taxpayer
Our commitment to you
For more than 160 years, Lambrook has been a school that has sought to nurture the potential of every child that has passed through its doors, giving
them the feathers to fly to all that awaits them at their senior school and the world beyond. The Prep School years are incredibly special, considered by many to be the most important and formative, with the foundations that they provide. It is our responsibility and expectation that each child fortunate enough to attend here enjoys their every moment at school.
While being mindful of the current pressure on the independent sector and on our parents, we also see this as a prime opportunity for Lambrook to solidify its position as the leading Prep School in the country. It is vital that we don’t stand still as a School and will continue to move Lambrook forward in line with our purpose of providing the most outstanding and enriching of educational experiences, and investing in our people, our provision, in others and, of course, our future.
Providing the highest quality educational experiences for all of our pupils; being a school where our pupils and their families know that we have travelled hand in hand with them at every stage, investing in them now and in the future senior schools and beyond.
Promising that such a treasured and rich opportunity will be something that generations to come will experience as fully as those who are a part of Lambrook today.
